Dayton Street Development is a small boutique builder of high end custom homes.  We believe in an unmatched attention to detail and hands on approach to building.  

Dayton Street Development specializes in the complete renovation of historic homes in Chicago and the North Shore.  We restore 1-2 homes a year for sale and selectly work for clients on large scale renovations of classic homes.  For select clients we will occasionally offer the service of consulting or building a new construction home.

The process of rebuilding a classic home offers significant challenges often not found in new construction.  To be done successfully it takes significant patience, on site availability and a desire to adapt to different challenges.   Dayton Street Development has a core group of contractors that posses the desire to constantly learn and adapt to the challenges afforded in high end classic reconstruction projects.  The principal of Dayton Street Development, Joe McInerney, is on site for the majority of the day assessing progress, finding solutions, and making sure things are done the correct way the first time.

Using the best materials and cutting edge design we are able to transform classic homes into true works of art.  These homes are ready for the modern family while keeping the best features of a home that has often stood for well over a century.  We believe that a home should fit into a neighborhood and not stand out in one.  

Joe McInerney started building and renovating homes in the late 1990's as a hobby while working as an attorney for the Illinois Attorney General.  What started as a hobby has turned into a successful and fulfilling business.  He believes that renewing older homes gives back to a neighborhood while creating a modern home that will stand the test of time.  As a boutique builder he believes in the importance of building relationships with his clients and creating unique one of a kind homes.  ​
